Treadmills enter the reading room; what makes a good radiologist? German-Brazilian MRI linkup

Dear AuntMinnieEurope Member,

Many of us get anxious and break out in a cold sweat at the mere prospect of jumping on a treadmill in a gym, never mind about in the workplace. But a progressive group of Norwegian radiologists think differently and have installed exercise equipment into a dedicated reading room.

The initial results are positive, but practical issues are likely to prevent this from becoming a major trend. To read our special feature on fitness at work, go to our PACS Community or click here.

What qualities and skills are essential for today's radiologist? And what makes a department tick? These questions are central to the working lives of every imaging professional, and Dr. Peter Rinck, PhD, has addressed them in his new column. Click here to read more.

Dr. Marcel Koenigkam Santos, PhD, is living proof of the value of transatlantic collaboration in research. Having spent 18 months working on lung MRI studies in Germany, the Brazilian radiologist confirms that such visits often lead to substantial benefits. To coincide with the International Day of Radiology, the U.K. Royal College of Radiologists organized a public lecture in London at the end of last week. It proved to be very entertaining, and we were on hand to cover the event. Get the story here.

This year marks the 100th annual meeting for RSNA, and the society is pulling out all the stops. Later this month, attendees in Chicago will be able to diagnose vintage x-ray images, see Wilhelm Roentgen's laboratory, and check out antique equipment, kicking off a yearlong celebration that will end at the 2015 meeting.
