A-listers head to Brussels; breast MRI gathers momentum; Gábor Forrai on breast screening

Dear AuntMinnieEurope Member,

Radiology's big hitters and A-listers were in Brussels yesterday for a high-level meeting at the European Parliament. It was a rare opportunity for the profession to show top political leaders and decision-makers exactly what the profession has to offer.

This turned out to be an intriguing event, and we were there to cover it. Click here to read our news report.

Breast MRI has proved ideal for lesion diagnosis and patient management in certain clinical situations, but there is no clear consensus about the use of the technique as a problem-solving tool for BI-RADS 0 findings on conventional imaging. New research from Austria published by the European Journal of Radiology aims to resolve this situation. To find out more, go to our Women's Imaging Community, or click here.

In the same community, don't miss our exclusive interview with Dr. Gábor Forrai, president-elect of the European Society of Breast Imaging. He has some interesting views on the debate over breast screening. Read about what's on his mind by clicking here.

The error rate for dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry (DEXA) examinations is very high, judged on an eye-catching new study from Milan. More than 90% of DEXA procedures contain errors, and adoption of the guidelines of the International Society for Clinical Densitometry is very poor, researchers have found. Meanwhile, new analysis from Germany supports a dramatic change in the management of patients with ongoing chest pain and psychological problems after angiographic exclusion of heart disease. Its results call into question repeat or further investigative procedures. Visit our Cardiac Imaging Community, or click here.

Last but not least, Dr. Isabel Vivas, PhD, our editorial advisory board member from Pamplona, Spain, has provided an interactive case report about a 76-year-old man with abdominal pain and nausea. Take the challenge in our Case of the Week feature, and if you'd like to develop a case yourself, please do feel free to contact me.
