Top predictions for 2013; Olympics & ultrasound; Ramesses III's death

Dear AuntMinnieEurope Member,

Financial matters and the impact of austerity measures have dominated much of 2012, so as the year draws to a close, it's only right that we look ahead to what 2013 might hold for medical imaging in Europe. We asked a team of market analysts to give their top three predictions for next year, and you won't want to miss them. Go to our PACS Digital Community, or click here.

Another recurring theme this year has been the controversy over the potential harm caused by breast screening. With this in mind, we asked two European luminaries to craft an opinion piece. They argue there has been misinformation and misleading conclusions strewn about. Let us know your opinion in the comments.

Don't forget ultrasound when it comes to sports imaging. That was the clear message at last week's annual meeting of the British Medical Ultrasound Society. Two sessions were devoted to use of the modality at the 2012 Olympic Games. To find out more, click here. Also, for our report on equine athletes, click here.

Ramesses III -- known as "the Great God" -- has fascinated Egyptologists for many years, and CT is now providing answers to many of their unsolved questions. Visit our CT Digital Community, or click here.

Few European radiologists have studied their error rates more closely than the Dundee group in Scotland. During the past five years, they've built up a database of 561 errors, and they collected an award at RSNA 2012 for their analysis on this hot topic. Data about breast screening in Germany is now starting to emerge, and the country's experiences are worth consideration. Go to our Women's Imaging Digital Community, or click here.

Our editorial team will still be working over the holidays, so make sure you check back for new Case of the Week reports and further news reports from around the globe. On behalf of everybody at AuntMinnieEurope.com, I wish you all the very best for the season.
