Dear AuntMinnieEurope Member,
Important changes have been made to the European Congress of Radiology (ECR) this year. Thursday is now virtually a full working day, and whereas many of the best scientific sessions were previously held over the weekend, the program now has a much more balanced look. Arriving as early as possible is clearly the best advice.
To find out what else is new at ECR 2012, I interviewed congress president Dr. Lorenzo Bonomo. He's led a personal campaign to increase collaboration between radiology and radiation oncology, and this will be a major theme during the congress in Vienna. Chest radiology also features prominently. Click here to read more.
Further evidence of the clinical capabilities of dual-source CT are gradually emerging. New research from Spain and the U.S. has found that the technique compares well with MRI and SPECT in performing sophisticated cardiac scans that combine anatomic and functional imaging for a comprehensive assessment of patients with suspected coronary artery disease. The Editorial Advisory Board plays an essential role for our website. Some advisers write articles for us, while others send us reports for the Case of the Week and provide suggestions and support whenever they can. I'd like to welcome three newcomers to the board. Because of the more widespread use of CT and the frequent need for repeated examinations, minimizing radiation dose is crucial for patients with chronic inflammatory conditions, such as Crohn's disease. Irish researchers think ultralow-dose CT can provide clinically valuable images in these patients. Visit our CT Digital Community, or click here.
In industry news, Canon Europe has acquired Netherlands-based Delft Diagnostic Imaging. We asked some analysts to explain the rationale behind this deal and speculate about the implications. Go to our Digital X-Ray Community, or click here.
