Week in Review: Why the fuss about radiomics? | PET's pitfalls | Special focus on ultrasound

Dear AuntMinnieEurope Member,

An intriguing Australian study grabbed our attention this week -- not only because it was about the highly fashionable area of radiomics but also because it suggested that clinical features still have a key role when making a prognosis in prostate cancer.

The authors' aim was to identify at-risk patients by developing predictive models for overall survival, using radiomic features from PET/CT scans combined with clinical features. You can check out their results in our news report.

PET imaging biomarkers are proving invaluable in the diagnosis of dementia and Parkinson's, but optimizing their use requires skill, knowledge, and care and attention. A research group from Madrid has shared its experiences in this area in an authoritative and wide-ranging new article.

When Prof. Paul Sidhu speaks on ultrasound, people sit up and listen. Ahead of this month's ECR, you can get his latest thoughts on the modality. He also talks about his love of travel and hiking.

Also, we've posted an ultrasound preview guide to some of the hottest sessions and research presentations that you can look forward to soon in Vienna. This guide includes a short article by market analyst Mustafa Hassan, PhD, about the technology he expects to see on display at the congress.

As many of you will know, Prof. Marion Smits is a longstanding enthusiast for social media. Significantly, she has left X.com and joined Bluesky. Learn more in our exclusive video interview with the leading Dutch researcher.
