Week in Review: Contrast media shake-up | AI fraud case update | Accuracy of outsourced reports

Dear AuntMinnieEurope Member,

Understandably, the prospect of an additional targeted tax on contrast media manufacturers is going to set alarm bells ringing for the medical imaging community – but there's no need for panic just yet.

The companies might decide to absorb the extra costs that are likely to result from the revised EU directive on urban wastewater treatment. Also, it could take nearly three years before the directive becomes effective in some countries. "Be prepared for a price hike" is probably the best advice.

Many of you have followed the case of the 28-year-old x-ray AI entrepreneur who was extradited from Italy last month and is being held in police custody. A leading Dutch newspaper has now published a major article about the suspect.

Are reports by outsourcing companies less accurate than those by in-house radiologists? U.K. researchers have addressed this question.

In breast imaging, an important step has been taken in establishing the term "nonlesion mass" in clinical practice, but much will depend on the next edition of the BI-RADS atlas. Get the full story in our report.

Finally, the U.K. Royal College of Radiologists has published a practical guide, called Sedation, analgesia and anaesthesia in radiology. Best of all, you can download the 28-page document free of charge.
