What's on the mind of the president of the European Society of Radiology ahead of ECR 2024? What's his life really like, and what makes him tick?
We were very lucky to have been granted an exclusive interview with Prof. Carlo Catalano, the man in charge of next week's congress. We used the opportunity to find out more about the individual behind the presidential mask, and I think you'll agree that he comes over as a thoughtful, warm, and sincere person.
In a second interview, we spoke with Prof. Paul Sidhu about the ultrasound sessions in which he'll be involved at ECR 2024. He also explained why radiologists must remain active in ultrasound.
PET/CT has emerged as an important imaging modality in cases of non-small cell lung cancer. The hybrid technique can boost understanding of biological mechanisms involved in lung tumor cells, leading to a better selection of treatment modalities for patients and an improved prognosis. The latest research from the Medical University of Vienna looks set to add further momentum to this trend.
In another molecular imaging story, nuclear medicine specialists claim they were not adequately consulted in clinical practice guidelines for thyroid nodule management. They refer to "the marginalization of nuclear medicine" and "the surprising downgrading of radioiodine (and surgery) ... despite more than 80 years of successful application."
