Canberra Hospital in Australia is preparing for a $9 million (8.3 million euros) MRI installation that managers hope will improve disease diagnosis and treatment times for patients.

Minister for Health Rachel Stephen-Smith lauded the project, which comes soon after a recent installation of a CT scanner and reflects the Australian Capital Territory Government's (ACT Government) efforts to upgrade its health system infrastructure and equipment. The new MRI system will allow the hospital to provide MRI services seven days a week with longer operational hours.

"Investing in new technology is also an investment in the workforce," Stephen-Smith said in a statement. "By providing access to modern technology and investing in innovative model of care, we are growing the knowledge and experience of the workforce in the ACT."
