Week in Review: Paul Parizel meets R2-D2 | Adrian Brady speaks on errors | ECR study on pulmonary embolism

Dear AuntMinnieEurope Member,

Over three years have passed since Prof. Paul Parizel left Europe for Australia, but he's not standing still or stagnating in Perth, the city known as the world's most isolated capital.

Parizel, a past ECR president, shared his latest thoughts on stroke imaging at the Vienna congress. His department has acquired an ultralow-field MRI scanner that has been called "radiology's R2-D2" due to its resemblance to the Star Wars robot. Parizel reckons the image quality is not great, but the big question is whether the quality will be sufficient for clinical decision-making -- "only the future will tell," he noted. Prof. Adrian Brady has received a lot of praise for the job he did as ECR 2023 president -- and rightly so. His early March schedule must have been remarkably busy, but he still found time to speak at a special session about one of his favorite topics: how to tackle reporting errors.

Meanwhile, a U.K. study presented at ECR showed that inpatients with omicron COVID have a significantly greater pulmonary embolism prevalence. Assessing CT pulmonary angiography usage may be beneficial for the planning of radiology services in future pandemics, the authors stated. Go to our CT Community.

The Swiss have built up a strong reputation for forensic and postmortem imaging over recent years. In an informative video interview recorded during ECR, Dr. Thomas Ruder shared his experiences of this intriguing area.

Also, please spare a few short minutes to listen to our interview with Dr. Uliana Pidvalna, PhD, about how life in Ukraine has changed since the Russian invasion. She was one of 10 recipients of the ESR's European Radiology Review Fellowships in 2022.
