Genomics England recently deployed technology from Sectra, which the company said will allow incorporation of imaging data from the U.K. National Health Service (NHS), as well as transporting images via the Image Exchange Portal.
The company said this means that diagnostic imaging data captured in the NHS, as well as digital pathology images generated by NHS laboratories, can be linked with whole-genome sequencing data from Genomics England.
It also said 30 NHS trusts in England are providing data on solid tumors. This includes about 250,000 pathology images and 200,000 radiology scans for 16,000 participants. Once the radiology and pathology data in the system are matched with the genomics data, multimodal data will be used by cancer researchers.
Additionally, patient information will be kept "highly secure," the company said. This includes identifiable data being removed for researchers outside of Genomics England.
