Week in Review: Trainees want more AI experience | Europe unveils cancer imaging plan | Secrets of golden boy mummy

Dear AuntMinnieEurope Member,

The vast majority of radiology trainees are keen for closer involvement in artificial intelligence (AI), yet less than 30% of them have any experience of working with AI.

That's the key finding of a survey conducted in 2021 of 149 trainees across the U.K. Don't miss our news report on a topic which is of major significance to the future of radiology.

In other AI news, a four-year infrastructure development initiative has been launched. The scheme aims to enhance the use of imaging and technology for precision medicine in cancer patients in the European Union, and the scientific lead is Prof. Luis Martí-Bonmatí, a longstanding and active member of the AuntMinnieEurope.com editorial advisory board.

By far the most visually striking article posted this week was about the so-called golden boy mummy. The 2,300-year-old mummy has laid in storage in the basement of Cairo's Egyptian Museum since 1916, but Dr. Sahar Saleem and her team have used CT to shed light on this remarkable object. Handheld ultrasound scanners are still not being used widely in clinics, but they're emerging fast, according to analysis from market experts Signify Research.

Looking ahead to next week, we'll be posting the first of three interviews with Prof. Adrian Brady, president of ECR 2023. Installment one will focus on his love of cycling.
