The U.K. Society of Radiographers (SoR) has released new guidance regarding diagnostic and "souvenir" ultrasound scans for pregnant women.
Pregnant women undergo ultrasound for diagnostic purposes, as well as to see the fetus via 2D and 3D images. The SoR guidance is intended to outline minimum competency levels for sonographers providing these services.
Sections of the document include the following:
- Equipment
- Quality management and safety
- Quality assurance and learning
- Early pregnancy
- First, second, and third-trimester ultrasound examinations
"[The guidance covers] a wide range of competencies required to perform the role safely, depending on the type and level of examination carried out," the SoR said in a statement.
