The Royal College of Radiologists (RCR) is promoting stroke awareness as part of World Stroke Day, which takes place on 29 October.

Stroke is the fourth leading cause of death in the U.K., with 100,000 people having strokes every year, according to an RCR statement issued on 26 October. The main risk factors for stroke include high blood pressure, diabetes, high LDL cholesterol levels, and smoking. Coronary heart disease, atrial fibrillation, heart valve disease, and carotid artery disease can also cause stroke, it added.

The RCR is also highlighting the potential of thrombectomy to treat stroke.
