The German Roentgen Society (DRG) has awarded the 2022 Wilhelm Conrad Roentgen Prize to Dr. Omar Dzaye from the Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin.

His research findings have shown that the coronary calcium score should be used more as a general health indicator and not just as a marker for the presence of obstructive coronary artery disease, according to a press release from the DRG.
"This new finding supports the clinical experience that patients with a high and very high calcium score have a high all-cause mortality rate without necessarily having to have obstructive coronary heart disease," the DRG noted. "Dr. Omar Dzaye also comes to the conclusion that the calcium score has a prognostic value for the oncological risk of patients, especially for the occurrence of colorectal and lung carcinomas."
The prize is endowed with 10,000 euros and is awarded for outstanding scientific work that serves to advance radiology and related fields.
