About 60% of women from the poorest areas of Scotland are not going for breast cancer screenings, while around 80% of those in more wealthy neighborhoods have attended screening, according to new data from Public Health Scotland published on 1 June in the Scotsman.
The figures show that 561,125 women, or about 72% of the female population, attended routine breast screenings between 2017/2018 and 2019/2020. Of those women, about 60% were from the most deprived areas and about 80% were from affluent communities, noted the Scotsman.
Currently, women between the ages of 50 and 70 are eligible for screenings every three years in Scotland.
