Week in Review: U.K. radiology's crisis deepens | Lifting the lid on gaslighting | Pareidolia comes under scrutiny

Dear AuntMinnieEurope Member,

The U.K. Royal College of Radiologists published its annual workforce census on Wednesday, and it's not an easy read. The pandemic has brought into sharp focus the preexisting deficiencies in staffing and equipment, and waiting lists for scans are growing fast.

"This is a slow-motion train crash," commented one observer. Get the full story in our MRI Community.

Does radiology have a problem with gaslighting -- the emotional manipulation of another person without their knowledge? New research suggests the answer is "yes," but the authors have also spelled out how to address this issue. Their analysis deserves a close look.

On a lighter note, many of you had probably never heard of pareidolia before this week. My AuntMinnie.com colleagues and I certainly hadn't. But after our report on prize-winning research from Spain involving movie characters like Shaun the Sheep, Darth Vader, and Davy Jones, we now feel better informed. Zoom interviews aren't quite the same as face-to-face conversations -- just as virtual meetings are no substitute for "real" congresses. But hopefully you've enjoyed our series of seven interviews with the winners of the 2021 EuroMinnies award scheme.

Our final two videos are live now. First up is a discussion with Prof. Guy Frija from Paris about his group's global survey on COVID-19 imaging, which won the Scientific Paper of the Year award.

Second, we have an interview with Dr. Richard Ljuhar from ImageBiopsy Lab, the winner of the Best New Radiology Vendor award.

Looking ahead, don't miss AuntMinnie.com's two-day Spring 2021 Virtual Conference: Advances in AI, next week. Registration is free of charge.
