Prof. Boris Brkljačić, past president of the European Society of Radiology, has received the trophy for the scientific paper of the year award in the 2021 EuroMinnies.
Together with co-authors Dr. Ivana Blažić, PhD, from Belgrade and Prof. Guy Frija from Paris, Brkljačić was responsible for the award-winning article, "The use of imaging in COVID-19 -- results of a global survey by the International Society of Radiology," published by European Radiology on 17 September 2020.
Brkljačić, who is professor of radiology and vice dean at the University of Zagreb School of Medicine in Croatia, and his colleagues found that most hospitals used chest imaging in suspected or confirmed patients with COVID-19 showing severe symptoms, although 69% tended not to use imaging in asymptomatic patients. The authors discovered noteworthy variations in how imaging was used for COVID-19 patients for different disease severity and various clinical scenarios in regard to imaging modality type used.
During April, AuntMinnieEurope.com will post video interviews with the winners of the EuroMinnies awards. This will provide an opportunity to get to know the award recipients better and learn about their work.
