The Bundestag, the German federal parliament, has passed the Medical Technical Assistant (MTA) Reform Act, replacing the previous MTA Law and enacting a new job title for a medical technologist for radiology (MTR), according to the German Röntgen Society (DRG).

The law defines training goals and minimum requirements for the schools providing MTR training. In addition, there will be a training allowance in the future and school fees will be abolished. Funding will be provided mainly through statutory health insurance and the Hospital Financing Act, the society said.

The law will take effect on 1 January 2023. The DRG noted, however, that the model clause for academic training did not make it into the law.
