Dr. Zaheer Sherazi, a radiologist who served in the Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust in Bury, near Manchester, U.K., has been struck off as a result of his performance, according to a report posted on 10 August in the Bury Times.
He was a general consultant and interventional radiologist at the hospital before his work and communication skills were negatively assessed, the report said. He was suspended from duty for nine months by the Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service, which informed him that his "professional status in the U.K. was under threat," according to the article.
Sherazi made no effort to respond to allegations of poor performance, although the tribunal emphasized that it could be rectified, the report said. He has been struck off the U.K.'s medical register.
"The tribunal was of the view that Dr Sherazi's failure to engage with his professional regulator had become persistent," tribunal chair Colin Chapman said in the Bury Times story. "It was not satisfied that suspension would be sufficient to protect patients, promote and maintain public confidence in the profession, and to uphold standards and conduct for members of the profession."
