Dear AuntMinnieEurope Member,
It's been a torrid and turbulent week for event managers, to put it mildly. The coronavirus outbreak has wreaked havoc with their carefully conceived schedules, plans, and budgets.
Given the current climate of uncertainty, exhibitors are taking understandable precautions. Siemens Healthineers has announced that it is withdrawing from trade shows during March. Many other companies have followed suit.
The announcement from Siemens came in the wake of the postponement of ECR 2020 on Tuesday, while on Thursday the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) said it was canceling its meeting, scheduled to start in Orlando, Florida, on 9 March.
Both organizations must have agonized long and hard before making their decisions. Let's hope the situation stabilizes in the weeks ahead so the medical congress calendar can get back on track.
A steady flow of journal articles is shining new light on the imaging features of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19). A major industry takeover story also broke this week. SymphonyAI has acquired TeraRecon, the advanced visualization and artificial intelligence (AI) software developer. For the full details, head over to the Advanced Visualization Community.
In other news, informatics expert Dr. Erik Ranschaert, an active longstanding member of the AuntMinnieEurope.com Editorial Advisory Board, gave an excellent webinar at the end of February. He listed five practical recommendations for integrating AI into your workflow. Visit our Artificial Intelligence Community.
