Immersive VR Education, a virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) software company based in Ireland, has collaborated with Oxford University researchers in the U.K. to develop an emergency medical care simulation package using VR technology, according to an article from Irish Tech News.
Using the firm's Engage educational VR platform, the researchers developed a Life-Saving Instruction for Emergencies (LIFE) simulation package that clinicians from several hospitals and universities throughout Kenya can incorporate into their training programs. The mobile VR simulation teaches healthcare workers best practices for managing medical emergencies -- with topics related to triage, assessment, imaging, and treatment -- particularly in caring for very sick newborns and children.
Immersive VR Education demonstrated this technology at the 2019 Virtual Medicine Conference in Los Angeles, California, U.S. The group will return to Kenya in April to explore using low-cost VR headsets for training healthcare workers.
