6 trends to watch at ECR 2019 | Self-compression for mammography | Screening for pancreatic cancer

Dear AuntMinnieEurope Member,

As ECR 2019 starts to loom large for the medical imaging community, now is a perfect time to consider "the bigger picture." This is the central theme of the congress, which begins in Vienna on 27 February.

To give you the inside track and mark your card, industry expert Stephen Holloway has identified six main trends to look out for at ECR 2019. Artificial intelligence, structured reporting, and efficiency gains are high on his list. Go to our Imaging Informatics Community.

Many women are anxious about undergoing a mammogram due to the possibility of pain, and some may not attend or reattend breast cancer screening because of the discomfort induced by breast compression. This situation prompted French researchers to study the issue, and their findings are worth close scrutiny. Visit the Women's Imaging Community.

In another important study, an Italian group has found that when combined with breast MRI screening, a pancreatic MRI exam can offer a rapid, noninvasive, and potentially inexpensive way to check for pancreatic cancer among BRCA patients. Don't miss our news report.

Which modality is the most appropriate choice to diagnose suspected local recurrence of head and neck squamous cell carcinomas? Is it FDG-PET/CT or diffusion-weighted MR imaging? A Dutch team has a definitive preference after directly comparing the diagnostic accuracy of the two modalities.

Also in our Molecular Imaging Community, French investigators have concluded that CT data on the size of the lymph node and maximum standardized uptake values from FDG-PET are the key components to optimize lymph node staging.

Finally, prostate artery embolization continues to emerge as a highly promising interventional radiology procedure for lower urinary tract symptoms secondary to benign prostatic hypertrophy. We have an article about the technique from the Arab Health meeting in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
