The Royal College of Radiologists (RCR) has tasked a working party, led by RCR President Dr. Nicola Strickland, with reviewing strategies to prepare the college for the future.
The working party has decided on six key topics to direct its review, including the following:
- Broadening RCR membership, possibly by offering some form of membership to nonspecialty physicians and other medical practitioners
- Emphasizing the benefits of membership for recruitment
- Granting statuses beyond the passing of Fellowship of Royal College of Radiologist (FRCR) Examinations
- Defining what membership entails
- Determining the long-term viability of the college's two-faculty structure
- Enhancing the RCR council's eight honorary officers in governing the business, financial, and regulatory aspects of the college's activities
The RCR plans to host a formal consultation for members and stakeholders in spring 2019, during which the college will present proposals addressing these six themes. It will then share these results with all members at the RCR19 meeting in Liverpool, U.K., on 15 October 2019 before suggesting amendments to its constitution, according to the RCR. Final proposals and amendments will be released for formal approval in 2020.
