Nordic nations star at RSNA 2018 | Danes drive for quality in breast screening | MRI proves value in lung cancer screening

Dear AuntMinnieEurope Member,

Nordic delegates at RSNA 2018 must have felt very much at home this week in the snowy, wintry conditions in Chicago, and they certainly relished the opportunity to inform, entertain, and educate attendees at Tuesday's special session about the Scandinavian way in medical imaging.

To mark the occasion, we invited two speakers to tell us about the practice of radiology in the Nordic region. To find out more, go to the Imaging Informatics Community, or click here.

At the same session, the head of Copenhagen's breast screening program elaborated on the Danish approach to screening and how quality is maximized. Learn more in our Women's Imaging Community, or click here.

Lung cancer screening has been a hot topic at RSNA 2018, and new research found that MRI can play a role in this area. In the study, the real benefit of MRI was the nearly fivefold reduction of false-positive screens relative to CT. Visit the MRI Community, or click here.

The RSNA opening ceremony takes place early on a Sunday morning, but it's always worth the effort to get there because it provides a window into the future. This year was no different. Away from Chicago, the ESR's new initiative on clinical audits was unveiled at the recent Annual Leadership Meeting in Berlin. Dr. Adrian Brady, chairman of the ESR Quality, Safety and Standards Committee, is leading this effort. Click here for the full story.

Also, a German study about how different gadolinium-based contrast agents (GBCAs) affect retention in the brain was published online in Radiology on 13 November. The results reveal marked differences between linear and macrocyclic GBCAs with respect to gadolinium retention at late time points due to the continuous elimination process for macrocyclic, but not for linear, GBCAs for at least one year. Find out more.

Finally, you have until 2 December to submit your nominations for the EuroMinnies awards. You can do so by clicking here. I'd like to thank everyone who has already sent us nominations.
