Barcelona live event draws crowds | Edinburgh team shows the way | New study on uterine fibroids

Dear AuntMinnieEurope Member,

The future of medical education might well have been on display last Friday.

An innovative online meeting about hybrid imaging took place in Barcelona, Spain, the Conference on Hybrid Imaging Live (CHILI). It was very professionally choreographed and produced, with an impressive array of speakers. Best of all, it was free of charge and easy to register, and no doubt this partly explained why over 2,400 people logged on.

We've got two news reports from the CHILI event. First up is an article about how PET/MRI is transforming tumor biology imaging and is proving a useful algorithm development tool in machine learning. Go to our Molecular Imaging Community, or click here. Secondly, we have a story about how PET/CT is leading to improvements in the staging of primary prostate cancer. Click here to read more.

The University of Edinburgh is establishing a growing reputation for its work in cardiac imaging. In a podcast, two of its leading researchers describe their current projects and share their thoughts on the field. Find out more here.

Uterine artery embolization (UAE) continues to attract attention. A study published online in the European Journal or Radiology on 27 October shows that UAE is achieving good outcomes and has clear benefits over surgery in terms of rapid recovery and return to normal activities. Visit the Women's Imaging Community, or click here.

In the same community, we have a report from the recent American Society for Radiation Oncology meeting about how a larger, weekly dose of radiation therapy has side effects that are comparable with those from conventional daily treatments for early-stage breast cancer. Get the full details here.

Finally, the German Radiological Society has devised an important certification program for multiparametric MRI of the prostate. In an interview, Prof. Matthias Röthke explains about the goals and priorities of the scheme. Head to the MRI Community, or click here.
