BIR offers practical guidance on MR safety

The British Institute of Radiology (BIR) has released a series of short advice sheets to promote best practices and excellence in MRI safety during MR Safety Week, 23-29 July.

The advice sheets describe commonly encountered MR conditions, why they are important, and where to find further information. They give practical tips and guidance on MR safety, particularly focusing on assessing MR conditions for implanted conditions.

Topics include static magnetic field, maximum spatial gradient, time-varying magnetic field gradients, and scanning without a manufacturer's approval.

The BIR MR Special Interest Group produced the sheets with support from the Institute of Engineers and Physicists in Medicine MR Special Interest Group, and the British Association of MR Radiographers.
