Imaging Messi, Neymar, Ronaldo, & Co. | Should radiographers read chest x-rays? | Chang praises France on AI

Dear AuntMinnieEurope Member,

The Russians are leaving nothing to chance for imaging of the football World Cup, which kicks off tomorrow.

To cope with injuries, MRI will be readily available in every host city, and a national squad of radiologists and radiographers has received extensive training in the latest techniques. Preparations got underway in January, and our editorial advisory board member Dr. Sergey Morozov, PhD, has been closely involved. Go to our MRI Community, or click here.

Role extension among radiographers continues to arouse controversy and divide opinion. For one leading Italian thoracic radiologist, radiographers reading chest x-rays represents a step too far. Find out why here.

This month's artificial intelligence (AI) meeting in Lyon, France, received considerable praise from many experts, including Dr. Paul Chang from Chicago. He thinks there are important differences between how radiologists in the U.S. and France are addressing the challenges of AI. Visit the Artificial Intelligence Community, or click here.

Another important seminar took place in Brussels last week. Organized by the European Society of Radiology, it focused on patient communication and regulatory aspects. For our onsite news report, click here.

Evidence about the effectiveness of digital breast tomosynthesis (DBT) is growing. The technique is usually pitted against digital mammography, with DBT tending to come out on top. These studies often focus on breast screening, but how well does DBT fare in breast assessment clinics? Learn more in the Women's Imaging Community, or click here.

Meanwhile, the British Journal of Cancer found English women ages 70 and older are less likely to survive breast cancer than women of the same age in Belgium, Poland, the Republic of Ireland, and the Netherlands. Get the details here.

Along with more than 6,000 other people, I'll be heading to Paris this weekend for the International Society of Magnetic Resonance in Medicine meeting. From Monday, we'll be posting video interviews live from the congress. Look out for them next week.
