ECR 2018: AI and radiology | Giving imaging results to patients | New product launches

Dear AuntMinnieEurope Member,

VIENNA - Artificial intelligence (AI) is a central theme at this week's European Congress of Radiology. From the numerous sessions about the topic, it's apparent the technology is evolving fast and AI is about much more than just image analysis.

Against this background, we've posted a series of three videos today about how and why AI promises to transform the working lives of radiologists. We invited three leading European experts -- one from the Netherlands, one from Russia, and one from Belgium -- to speak about a subject dear to their hearts. Click here to get a biomedical image analysis perspective from Wiro Niessen, click here for a radiology management view from Sergey Morozov, and click here for a clinical perspective from Erik Ranschaert.

The decision about whether to distribute imaging results directly to patients tends to divide opinion. This topic was addressed by Austrian and Swiss researchers, and to learn about their findings, click here.

Low breast cancer screening attendance rates are often found in capital cities and metropolitan areas. High immigrant populations are cited as one cause of this trend, but how accurate is this claim? Researchers from Norway studied the attendance rates for the country's population-based screening program and presented their findings at ECR. Find out more here.

The technical exhibition opened its doors today, and the manufacturers have already unveiled new product launches in ultrasound and MRI, as well as in the high-field sector. Make sure you check back for further reports from the exhibit floor and our continuing coverage of ECR 2018 in our RADCast @ ECR special section.
