The European Union (EU) is not reconsidering its decision to move the headquarters of the European Medicines Agency (EMA) to Amsterdam, according to comments made by Health Commissioner Dr. Vytenis Andriukaitis on Wednesday.
Andriukaitis was addressing speculation that the EU might reopen the competition to determine which city will be home to the EMA after it moves from London. Amsterdam was chosen as the EMA's new location in November, but recent news reports indicate that the building dedicated to the agency won't be ready in time and that the EMA may need to use temporary facilities until it's finished.
That sparked lobbying from Italian politicians still chafing at the decision to pick Amsterdam over Milan. News reports earlier in the week hinted that the Italian government might ask the EU to consider the northern Italian city once again, and indeed the country filed a legal bid on Wednesday with the European Court of Justice.
But Andriukaitis quashed the effort in a press briefing later that day, according to a Reuters article. "The council decision is done," he told reporters.
