ECR 2016 opens; hybrid imaging creates a buzz; mobile devices; incidental findings

Dear AuntMinnieEurope Member,

VIENNA - The European Congress of Radiology (ECR) got underway in Vienna this morning in stunning early spring sunshine. Judging by the huge crowds thronging from the U-Bahn station to the congress venue, this event will be seriously well-attended.

Our five-strong editorial team has joined the crowds in the Austrian capital to bring you live news from the congress.

On the opening day, hybrid imaging created a buzz at the congress. A new European society will launch officially on Sunday, and we asked the treasurer, Dr. Thomas Beyer, to tell us why the new society is needed and how it will operate. Watch the video here, and check back for six more interviews to be posted this week.

Mobile devices are essential for today's radiologists, but how precisely should they be used? What are the potential pitfalls? Don't miss our exclusive report from today's session. Get it here.

The growing sophistication of the latest CT and MRI systems means that incidental findings are increasingly common, but deciding what to do about these findings remains controversial. For an article about this important topic, click here.

In industry news, ECR 2016 looks set to be a particularly intriguing conference for ultrasound vendors. We've got a report about the latest product offerings from the leading manufacturers. Click here to learn more.

For our full coverage from the congress, go to the RADCast, and check back over the next few days.

Away from ECR, regular columnist Dr. Neelam Dugar discusses the usefulness of clinical networks. Read more here. Also, congratulations must go Dr. Nicola Strickland, who is to become the next president of the U.K. Royal College of Radiologists. She defeated three opponents in last month's election.
