Ultrasound developer Fujifilm SonoSite has announced CE Mark and U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) 510(k) clearance for its new portable ultrasound system, SonoSite Edge II.
The scanner is designed with emergency medicine and critical care applications in mind, and it features transducer technology suited for rugged environments. Edge II includes SonoSite's DirectClear technology, which increases penetration and contrast resolution. The transducer, combined with a new wide-angle display, offers a 33% increase in viewing angles.
Edge II also has armored cable technology with an embedded metal jacket that protects transducers from common abuse and accident scenarios, such as being rolled over, stepped on, or twisted. It also helps maintain image quality over the life of the transducers.
