Digitization 'weakens' radiology; new mummies study; MRI safety

Dear AuntMinnieEurope Member,

Most people automatically assume the digital revolution that continues to transform radiology is a completely positive phenomenon. Dr. Werner Golder disagrees. He has expressed serious concerns about the future, and he fears digital images undermine the authority of radiologists compared with other specialists.

Golder has written a well-crafted and thought-provoking German-language editorial on this topic, and he's allowed us to translate and edit the text. To read it, visit our PACS Digital Community, or click here.

When it comes to providing fresh information about mummies, imaging has come into its own over recent years. Lancet has published a new study covering ancient Egypt, Peru, the southwestern U.S., and the Aleutian Islands in Alaska, and it is worth a close look. Go to our CT Digital Community, or click here.

Europe's medical physicists have produced some analysis and suggestions on MRI safety. They found substantial variations between countries. Get the story in our MRI Digital Community, or click here.

European Radiology is to have a new editor in chief by the start of next year. Dr. Maximilian Reiser from Munich, a former president of ECR and the European Society of Radiology, will take over from Dr. Adrian Dixon from Cambridge, U.K. Click here to read more. Also, soon we will have a longer article about this important appointment, so make sure you check back to our home page.

If you missed any of our news coverage from ECR 2013, take a look at our RADCast @ ECR from the congress in Vienna. The editors of AuntMinnieEurope.com helped put together the daily congress newspaper for the event, and you can now download free copies of the paper here.

Finally, our sister site AuntMinnie.com is conducting a salary survey at present, and we're urging Europeans to take part. Click here for more details.
