Philips Healthcare has named new heads for its Middle East and Russia operations and begun new initiatives aimed at increasing its activities in these sectors.
Philips has named Roy Jakobs as its new CEO for the Middle East. Jakobs will focus on increasing opportunities for Philips to work as a partner with both local governments and the private sectors in providing tailored healthcare offerings, according to Philips.
Philips' will be sending its "Simply Healthy Women" road show around the Middle East region. The show, which includes a mobile digital mammography unit with a Philips MicroDose mobile digital mammography system, will perform breast screenings, according to the vendor.
Philips has also appointed Vladimir Gabrielyan as head of healthcare in Russia. With the Russian government about to double healthcare expenses from 3% to 6% of gross domestic product, Philips is expecting the added investment to give a considerable impetus to the medical technology industry.
In addition, the vendor said that the federal government is joining with regional governments to cosponsor nationwide oncology and cardiology programs aimed at a significant upgrade of existing medical equipment.
To reflect this increasing regionalization of healthcare in Russia, Philips said it's setting up five regional district headquarters in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Krasnoyarsk, Kazan, and Almaty to better meet local needs. Philips said it realized 288% growth in nuclear medicine in Russia in 2011 and already has some collaborative nuclear medicine projects lined up for 2012.
