Philips Healthcare is partnering with the cancer charity the Grant Life Foundation to provide imaging technology to a new Children's Oncology complex in Moscow, which opened yesterday.
The complex, costing 475 million euros ($668 million U.S.), is part of the Federal Research and Clinical Center for Children Hematology, Oncology and Immunology (FRC-PHOI). It is estimated about 5,000 children and teenagers in Russia are diagnosed with blood cancer and other oncologic diseases annually; around 30%, or 1,500, die because they do not get adequate treatment, according to Grant Life Foundation.
Philips supplied kid-friendly equipment such as the "Ambient Experience Solution" and a "Kitten Scanner." The Ambient Experience Solution integrates lighting, sound, and video projection to create a more relaxing environment, according to Philips. The Kitten Scanner is a small version of the CT scanner that familiarizes the child with the procedure they're about to go to through.
Philips will also provide the hospital with numerous imaging systems such as the Achieva 3.0T X-series MRI.
In addition to medical equipment, Philips will provide kitchen equipment and a mother-and-child room to make patients feel more comfortable.
