With the BR2 nuclear reactor in Belgium back online, healthcare technology firm Covidien is predicting more reliable supplies of technetium-99m (Tc-99m) for the rest of June.
The Dublin, Ireland-based company's latest supply update noted that the BR2 reactor added an extra manufacturing cycle this month, after Covidien provided funding to support the added BR2 cycle.
Covidien also has been collaborating with the Institute for Radioelements (IRE) to validate molybdenum-99 from the Czech Rez reactor for use in Tc-99m generator production for European, U.S., and Canadian patient procedures.
