Nuclear medicine products firm Ion Beam Applications (IBA) has launched an expansion program to meet the demand for its proton therapy systems.
The program will allow the production of up to eight proton therapy systems per year in its first phase, a fourfold increase over the current production rate, according to the firm. To meet this goal, IBA said it plans to increase its payroll by up to 250 employees this calendar year.
The investment, which IBA said was in excess of 3 million euro ($3.9 million U.S.), will entail an expanded production surface and the addition of new testing vaults at IBA's Louvain-la-Neuve, Belgium, headquarters. The new facility should be operational by midsummer this year, the company said.
