Radiation therapy firm Varian Medical Systems has announced the sale of seven radiation therapy machines to the Instituto Português Oncologia in Porto, Portugal.
The project involves the complete reconstruction of an institute that began treating cancer patients in 1974. The order includes the installation of the country's first Novalis Tx device for advanced radiosurgery and two Trilogy medical linear accelerators, in addition to four Clinac DHX linacs and the Aria oncology information software with 64 workstations and 15 treatment planning systems.
Placed in August, the order comprises the largest single radiation therapy order ever installed in Portugal, said the Palo Alto, CA-based firm.
