Radiation therapy firm Varian Medical Systems of Palo Alto, CA, has inked a $17 million contract with a Berlin-based clinic group.
Helios Kliniken Group is a subsidiary of the global healthcare company Fresenius. It owns 62 hospitals across Germany and offers radiation therapy to six hospitals in Krefeld, Wuppertal, Schwerin, Bad Saarow, Berlin-Zehlendorf, and Berlin-Buch.
The group will purchase nine linear accelerators from Varian, the majority equipped with the company's RapidArc technology. The new machines will be installed at each of Helios' radiotherapy sites, replacing older models and adding capacity; each site will also receive a suite of Varian's Aria oncology information management software and Eclipse treatment planning software. Three of the hospitals will also receive a new GammaMed brachytherapy afterloader, Varian said.
