Swedish radiation oncology firm Elekta of Stockholm has launched a new stereotactic treatment program, called Extend, for neurosurgeons and radiation oncologists, the company said.
Extend works with Leksell Gamma Knife surgery, allowing users to treat large or critically located targets in the head and neck. Elekta plans to launch Extend at this week's Congress of Neurological Surgeons (CNS) annual meeting in Orlando, FL.
The company also announced a contract with Thompson Cancer Survival Center in Knoxville, TN, for its Elekta Infinity and Elekta Synergy linear accelerator for volumetric modulated arc therapy (VMAT).
Finally, the company reported financial results for its first quarter 2009 (end-July 31), posting net sales of $153.7 million (1.3 billion Swedish kronor), an increase of 13% from the previous year. Elekta saw profit after taxes of $149,000 (1 million kronor), a 95% decrease compared to $3 million (20 million kronor) the previous year.
