Radiopharmaceutical firm Ion Beam Applications (IBA) has announced a contract with ATreP (Agenzia Provinciale Per la Protonterapia) to open the first gantry-equipped proton therapy center in Italy.
The agreement involves construction, installation, and technical operation for 15 years, with clinical operations performed under the responsibility of ATreP clinicians, the Louvain-la-Neuve, Belgian-based firm said.
The first patient is expected to be treated with proton therapy at the center in 2013, with an expected treatment load of 1,000 patients per year.
