Pérez López prepares to lead ESR research committee

The newly elected head of the ESR research committee, Dr. Raquel Pérez López, has spoken about her plans for the future.

"I hope to promote new initiatives that transform clinical practice through advances in imaging," Pérez López said in an interview with the Spanish Society of Medical Radiology (SERAM). "My goal is to accelerate the transfer of knowledge and build bridges between disciplines, generating benefits for both health professionals and patients, and positioning ESR and SERAM as leaders in innovation and collaboration in the radiological field."

Pérez López is head of the radiomics group at the Vall d'Hebron Oncology Institute in Barcelona, Spain. She has been the coordinator of the SERAM oncology commission. She also leads and collaborates in international cancer diagnosis and treatment consortia, such as Data Using Artificial Intelligence to Improve Patient Outcomes with Thoracic Diseases (DART), and the Open Consortium for Decentralized Medical Artificial Intelligence (ODELIA).

Also, Pérez López has been a member of the Imaging Task Force of Cancer Core Europe, AI Task Force of the European Association for the Study of the Liver (EASL), and the Response Evaluation Criteria in Solid Tumours (RECIST) Working Group.

"With the support of the other members of the commission and the industry, I hope to be able to foster interdisciplinary collaboration by organizing workshops and meetings involving radiologists and other health professionals and engineers," Pérez López said.

She plans to promote training opportunities and access to scholarships for young radiologists and radiology technicians, to promote research in the field and bring cutting-edge research closer to clinical practice.
