French radiology strike action planned for 10 November

The National Federation of Medical Radiologists (FNMR) has announced a day of national strike action on 10 November as a further protest against government cuts to the French medical imaging sector in 2026.

Calling the cuts “unjustifiable,” the FNMR said that the strike will be extended to all emergency departments throughout the day.

The FNMR also said that it is filing an official appeal against the fee cuts imposed by the National Health Insurance Fund (Caisse Nationale de l'Assurance Maladie, CNAM) in the CNAM's 2025-2027 imaging protocol and in the 2026 Social Security Financing Bill (PLFSS).

The cuts will affect an already weakened sector and potentially cause practices to close, especially in rural and suburban areas, the FNMR said, resulting in longer waiting times, restricted access, and delayed diagnoses.

Noting that radiologists have “already given too much,” having endured in excess of €1.5 billion in fee cuts over the past decade, the FNMR outlined its proposals to reduce unnecessary exams and reduce contrast agent volumes, develop cost-effective innovations such as AI tools for decision support, and meet current best practices.

If implemented, the proposals could generate savings of up to €300 million over three years without compromising access to or quality of care, the FNMR added.
