ESR to open new office in Brussels

The ESR plans to open a 500-square-meter office in Brussels in November 2026. It will accommodate 25 staff members.

The development marks "an important milestone in the ESR's continued growth and engagement in European health policy and research," the society said, noting that the office will serve as a hub for the European Institute for Biomedical Imaging Research (EIBIR), the ESR's Institutional Members, and 15 subspecialty member societies. The society plans to share the facility with the European Association of Nuclear Medicine (EANM).

The ESR will use the office as a focal point for AI in radiology research and as a way to forge deeper engagement with health initiatives such as the EU Apply AI Strategy, Europe's Beating Cancer Plan, and the forthcoming EU Cardiovascular Health Plan. It also plans to broaden initiatives such as EuroSafe Imaging and the European Alliance for Medical Radiation Protection Research (EURAMED).

Finally, the ESR will use the Brussels facility as the venue for its annual leadership meeting.

"By establishing a presence in Brussels, the ESR will enhance its ability to actively engage in EU health policy," said ESR Board of Directors Chair Prof. Andrea Rockall in a statement. "It will ensure that the voice of the imaging community is heard in critical policy discussions, strengthening the society's position as an advocate for the integration of imaging across multiple medical disciplines."
