Radiologist testifies in U.K. murder trial

A leading U.K. pediatric radiologist testified in a trial of a couple accused of killing their two-year-old daughter that the girl’s injuries were consistent with those usually seen in high-velocity motor vehicle accidents, according to a report posted on 10 October by the BBC.

Prof. Owen Arthurs, PhD, a professor of radiology at University College London and a consultant pediatric radiologist at London's Great Ormond Street Hospital, was called as an expert witness in the trial of Chelsea Gleason-Mitchell, 24, the mother, and Scott Jeff, 24, who both deny murdering the girl, the BBC noted.

“The kind of velocity in a road-traffic accident you need to fracture a pelvis is high impact – so a car traveling at 70 mph [113 kmh] versus 10 mph, [16 kmh]” Arthurs said.

Also, a 9 October article in The Independent stated that the girl was found on 30 June 2023 in the bathroom of a temporary housing unit in Ipswich and that the cause of death was given as “bone marrow embolism caused by skeletal trauma.”
