Oxford Instruments buys mobile imaging firm

U.K.-based Oxford Instruments said it has acquired Medical Imaging Resources (MIR) of Ann Arbor, MI, U.S. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

MIR specializes in the construction, leasing, and servicing of mobile medical imaging units, which are built in the company's factory and include both MRI and CT systems from major multimodality OEMs. Its customers include hospitals and clinics that need extra capacity or want to test MRI or CT machines without committing to the normal infrastructure and costs such projects require, Oxford said.

MIR will form a part of OIHealthcare, within Oxford's service sector, which already services MRI and CT machines from GE Healthcare in the U.S. The new acquisition has a number of synergies with OIHealthcare, in that it will move closer to being a multiskilled independent service provider that can support large service contracts. Overhead savings will be realized in areas where duplication can be eliminated. Finally, OIHealthcare will be able to subcontract less of its work, Oxford said.
