Proton therapy developer Ion Beam Applications (IBA) has signed an agreement to settle litigation with Westdeutsches Protonentherapiezentrum Essen (WPE).
Under the terms of the letter of intent, WPE has agreed to purchase the proton therapy center in Essen, Germany, from STRIBA Protonentherapiezentrum, a 50/50 joint venture between IBA and center developer Strabag Projektentwicklung (Strabag).
The transfer of the center is expected to be completed in the coming weeks upon signing of the final contracts. Furthermore, IBA and WPE have agreed on the main terms of an 18-year operations and maintenance agreement. Further details of the agreements have not been disclosed.
The West German Proton Therapy Center, which features four treatment rooms, three gantries (isocentric rotational frames), and one fixed-beam room, treated its first patient last week, IBA said.
