Korean ultrasound technology developer Alpinion Medical Systems has received the CE Mark for its Alpius 900 ultrasound-guided high intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) system for the treatment of uterine fibroids.
The system features water-cooling technology to prevent patient skin burns as well as pretargeting technology that enables users to check the focal point on the target before starting treatment, according to the vendor. In addition, Alpius 900 is equipped with a multichannel transducer that enables the ultrasound beam to be steered electronically, Alpinion said.
With Alpius 900, uterine fibroid treatments average an hour in length, according to the company. The system was approved by the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety in Korea in 2014.
