Prof. Regina Beets-Tan, PhD, has provided an update on the work of the European Institute for Biomedical Imaging Research (EIBIR), including outlining future plans.
Founded in 2006 by the European Society of Radiology (ESR), the nonprofit research platform supports radiologists and imaging scientists as they navigate European research funding.
The EIBIR currently coordinates flagship initiatives under the Europe’s Beating Cancer Plan. These include the Solace project for lung screening pilot studies and Eucaim for AI in cancer imaging.
“These projects are not abstract science,” said Beets-Tan, a former president of the ESR. “They are tangible platforms that will redefine imaging and AI integration in clinical practice.”
The EIBIR is also implementing a new four-year project that will test how AI tools can be deployed responsibly across healthcare settings. This follows the actions as defined in the EU health policy platform joint statement on “Advancing precision medicine for Europe’s cancer patients with AI-powered imaging," by the ESR in collaboration with the Eucaim consortium.
