As part of Germany's Open Monument Day on Sunday, 11 September 2022, the German Roentgen Society (Deutsche Röntgengesellschaft, DRG) is inviting visitors to the house where Wilhelm Conrad Röntgen was born in Remscheid-Lennep, 45 km east of Düsseldorf, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Guests can tour the public exhibition on the ground floor of the house.
The house is typical of Bergisch housing of around 1800. Because of its special significance, it was listed as a historic monument and entered in the Remscheid city monument list in 1982. For many years it housed the specialist library of the German Röntgen Museum, also located in Lennep. Acquired by the German Röntgen Society in 2011, it was extensively renovated with the help of numerous supporters.
The house is located at Gänsemarkt 1, 42897 Remscheid, Nordrhein-Westfalen, has public transport links, is accessible to wheelchairs, and has parking.
More information in German about the house and its location can be found at the German Foundation for Monument Protection website.
