Royal Philips, the parent company of Philips Healthcare, has signed a 10-year strategic partnership with Rijnstate Hospital in Arnhem, the Netherlands.
The collaboration is designed to jointly develop a novel hospital-based concept that will feature a virtual care coordination center serving as an advanced central command hub. From there, care providers will remotely monitor the health of patients both inside and outside the hospital.
Philips' patient monitoring products include the wireless IntelliVue Guardian, which links to a wearable biosensor to continuously monitor patients and provide automatic measurements of key vital signs. The devices would be used for at-risk patients as they move from emergency departments to general care and eventually to their homes.
Through the remote technology, Rijnstate is expected to reduce and shorten hospitalizations and require less bed capacity. It also could allow the hospital to potentially monitor as many as 450,000 beds in the homes of people throughout the region.
